What Is a Torque Converter?
A torque converter is a mechanical device used in automatic transmissions to transfer and amplify power from a vehicle’s engine to the transmission. How Does the Torque Converter Work?

The process involves:
- Idle: At low speeds, minimal power is transferred to the transmission, allowing the car to idle without stalling.
- Acceleration: As the engine speeds up, the pump forces more fluid into the turbine, transferring increased torque to the wheels.
